What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplane is a safe, non-invasive treatment which uses a new, sterile blade at a forty-five degree angle and stroked along the skin, while holding the skin taut to remove “peach fuzz”, as well as dead skin cells. Dermaplaning is performed as a stand alone treatment or prior to other skincare treatments to enhance their efficacy. This is a wonderful form of exfoliation that can be used with or without acids. This treatment does not require downtime and will effectively smooth acne scars, even skin tone, help with fine lines and give you the most smoothest, softest and glowing skin. Perfect for pregnant women looking for a deep exfoliation treatment without the use of acids.

What are the benefits of having a Dermaplane?

  • Requires zero down time
  • Promotes smoother, softer skin
  • Removes soft facial hair that traps dirt and oil.
  • Dermaplannng enhances the effectiveness of other skincare treatments such as enzyme, chemical peels and oxygen+vitamin infusion by providing deeper product penetration.
  • Reduces recent acne scars
  • Reduces fine lines
  • Minimizes the appearance of large pores
  • Produces immediate results.

Will my hair grow back thicker?

No. This is physiologically impossible. There are two types of hair that grow on your body. Vellus hair, which when cut or removed will grow back the same size and shape, therefore, the main structure of vellus hair does not change and is not altered by dermaplanning. Terminal hair however, is physiologically coarse. When this hair type is cut it will always grow back coarse. Dermaplanning is designed to treat the vellus hair which is located on the face. Once vellus hair is cut it will maintain a blunt edge and this blunt edge will not physiologically alter the hair itself.

How often is the procedure performed?

Dermplaning is usually performed every four weeks. Treating the skin in this manner actually        removes about three-four weeks worth of dead skin cells. The skin needs to complete its normal thirty day rejuvenation cycle before the treatment is done again.

Does the skin peel from dermaplaning?

Occasionally the skin will have microscopic flaking or peeling after a dermaplane, especially if you have never had a deep exfoliating treatment. It is normal for the skin to feel tight and dry after which is why it is very important to treat the skin with hydrating products after this treatment. Refraining from the use of Vitamin A derivatives for about a week is also important to keep the skin from irritation.

What skin types/conditions can be treated?

All skin types, including pregnant and sensitive, may benefit from dermaplaning. A dermaplane is not recommended if you have acne or an excessive production of sebaceous gland oil. (Sebaceous glands excrete oil along the vellus hair). If the hair is removed, the oils may cause bacteria growth that can stimulate acne breakouts.

What areas can be treated?

Dermaplaning is performed on the face only.

Anything else that I need to know?

  • Please discontinue the use of glycolic acid products at least 2 days before treatment and at least 5 days after.
  • Please discontinue the use of Retin-A, retinols or Vitamin A derivatives at least 3 days before treatment and at least 5 days after.
  • Treatment can not be performed on anyone currently using Accutane or at least 6 months discontinuing use.
  • The use of Sun Protection is very important after treatment since your new fresh skin will be revealed.
  • Cannot be performed on anyone that has uncontrolled diabetes.
  • It is normal that the skin can experience a histamine reaction in some cases.
  • It's best not to work out, swim or visit a sauna for AT LEAST 24 hours after receiving a dermaplane as to not cause any reactions or breakouts. You want to avoid these things for a longer amount of time if receiving peels.
  • You can apply makeup after but please make sure your brushes and sponges are clean and be sure to double cleanse after.
